Montevideo approves Watson sewer connection

MONTEVIDEO -- As expected, Montevideo City Council members formally approved an agreement Tuesday with the city of Watson to provide wastewater treatment services.

The approval allows the city of Watson to move forward with plans to develop a pipeline and send its wastewater to the Montevideo treatment plant. Otherwise, the city of Watson would need to invest in an expensive project to replace its existing wastewater treatment plant.

Montevideo City Manager Steve Jones said Montevideo's wastewater treatment plant has ample capacity to handle the additional flow. The additional flow will represent roughly 2 percent of the total flow to be treated at the plant.

Watson, with a population of just over 200, will be responsible for building the pipeline and a pumping station.

The city of Montevideo is currently moving forward with an estimated $17 million project to upgrade its wastewater plant.
