Two hurt in four-vehicle crash

SVEA -- Two people were hurt in a four-vehicle crash Friday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and Kandiyohi County Road 3, about six miles south of Willmar, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

They were Jill R. Foslien, 24, of Chanhassen and Mark J. Schmitt, 44, of Atwater. They were taken by Willmar Ambulance to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for treatment of injuries, the patrol said.

The crash happened when a 1995 Ford van driven by Wallace D. Ammermann, 63, of Lake Lillian, was southbound on Highway 71 and was waiting to turn eastbound onto County Road 3. The patrol said the van was rear-ended by a 1996 Pontiac driven by Jared D. Krause, 18, of Olivia. A passenger in the car was Katie J. Schulte, 17, of Bird Island. They were not reported hurt.

The Pontiac was rear-ended by a southbound 2007 Ford Mustang driven by Foslien. The patrol said the Mustang spun onto the northbound lane and was struck by a northbound 2004 Buick driven by Schmitt.

The patrol said the highway was icy and snow-packed at the time.
