Jose Ernesto Duran Jr., 33, of Willmar, was sentenced Monday to 18 months in prison, which was stayed, five years of probation, a $1,000 fine and 65 days in the county jail on a felony charge of third-degree burglary for entering a woman's home and taking electronic equipment on March 15.

Duran was given credit for 65 days already served in jail and ordered to write an apology letter, attend a property crime impact panel and complete chemical dependency evaluation and treatment.

The charge was filed after Willmar police officers were called around 2:20 a.m. March 15 to a home along the 1800 block of Seventh Avenue Southeast. The owner of the townhome involved, and other witnesses, said two men had been seen coming out of the home, with one holding a television set. A witness said the men ran when she yelled at them. Duran was among the group of people at the scene when the police arrived. A television and DVD player were recovered by those at the scene. Also found near the items was a knife. The owner reported that 10 to 20 DVDs and a cell phone were missing.

When interviewed by an officer, Duran claimed he had nothing to do with the incident, only that he came along with two others.
