ST. CLOUD -- A 40-year-old man died when he lost control of his motorcycle at 3:31 p.m. on Saturday near the intersection of Stearns County Roads 18 and 183 in Ashley Township, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's Department.

The driver went off the roadway and was thrown off the 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released.

OLIVIA -- Minnesota State Patrol officers responded to two separate accidents on U.S. Highway 71 south of Olivia which were reported within one minute of each other on Saturday. No serious injuries were reported in the accidents, which were reported at 10:39 a.m. and 10:40 a.m.

A 1999 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Taylor Tisdell, 16, of Olivia, was sideswiped by a 1996 Oldsmobile 88 driven by Carla Flemming, 19, of Bird Island at milepost 94 south of Olivia on Highway 71, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Tisdell was treated and released from a care facility not listed on the report and Flemming suffered no apparent injuries. The Pontiac sustained severe damage and the Oldsmobile moderate damage.

In the second accident, a Jeep Cherokee pulling a utility trailer and driven by Judith Dirks, 58, of Olivia, was making a right turn and struck from behind by a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Joe S. Baca, 32, of Melrose, near mile post 91 on U.S. Highway 71.

Neither driver suffered any apparent injuries, but a passenger in the Malibu, Elizabeth Baca, was treated and released. A passenger in the Jeep Cherokee, Steven Dirks, reported no apparent injuries.

The Malibu sustained severe damage as did the utility trailer pulled by the Jeep Cherokee, which had minor damage.

MONTEVIDEO -- Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Highway 277 and Chippewa County Road 13 at 7:40 p.m. on Friday, sending the driver of one to the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that Danielle M. Bungarden, 24, of Hibbing, was driving a 2008 Ford Focus westbound on Chippewa County Road 13 and failed to stop when he struck a 1993 Oldsmobile 88 Royale southbound on Highway 277 driven by Jamie Knakmuhs, 23, of Alexandria.

Bungarden was treated and released from the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital. Knakmuhs and a passenger, Joseph Zimmerman, 25, of Alexandria, suffered no apparent injuries.

The Ford Focus sustained severe damage and the Oldsmobile was totaled.


WILLMAR -- Someone broke into a house on the 700 block of Eighth Street Northwest and stole about $200 in cash, according to a report made at 3 a.m. Sunday. The caller said they could hear someone going through the garage.

A resident on the 700 block of Northeast Park Avenue reported Sunday morning that someone had broken a deadbolt to gain entry to their garage. A Jiffy electric fishing auger, tackle box and lures and other sporting goods were stolen.

Foot chase

WILLMAR -- An intoxicated man was stunned and taken into custody after a brief foot chase shortly before midnight on Friday on the 900 block of Second Street Southeast in Willmar.

The man was being sought for another incident when reported at the address.

Runaways returned

WILLMAR -- Two 16-year-old runaways were returned after being located at a motel in Gardner, Kan., over the weekend.

The two runaways, a boy and girl friend from Renville and Kandiyohi counties, had been reported missing on Wednesday. They were believed to be headed to Illinois but cell phone calls indicated they had reached Texas and were believed headed to Mexico. An alert was issued to law enforcement to watch for the runaways.
