Victims identified in fatal campground tent accident

Updated 2:30 p.m.

MORTON -- The name of the baby boy who was killed Sunday at a Renville County campground has been released.

According to the Renville County Sheriff's Department, four-month-old Wyatt Sander, of Redwood Falls, was killed when a vehicle was driven over the tent where the infant and his parents were resting.

The child's mother, Sheena Hinshaw, 21, of Redwood Falls, was injured and is in stable condition at the Redwood Falls Area Hospital. The boy's father, Jacob Sander, 27, of Redwood Falls was not injured.

The incident happened at about 8:20 a.m. on Sunday at the Beaver Falls Campground near Morton when Nicolle Prechel, 31, of Redwood Falls was attempting to back a van into a parking spot near the tent site.

The van drove over and through the tent, dragging Hinshaw and her son under the vehicle.

Wyatt Sander was taken to the Redwood Falls Area Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Prechel was arrested and is being held in the Renville County Jail on charges of vehicular homicide, third degree driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

Assistant County Attorney Glen Jacobsen said it is "highly likely" that additional charges will be filed.

Formal charges are expected to be filed sometime on Tuesday.

Prechel will make her first appearance at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in Renville County Court.
