Litchfield teen dies in two-car crash

LONG PRAIRIE -- The Minnesota State Patrol said Jacob A. Hughes, 16, of Litchfield and Tod G. Walther, 46, of Long Prairie died in a two-car crash at 6:51 a.m. Sunday in Todd County. The crash happened on U.S. Highway 71 at 202nd Street.

The State Patrol said a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Hughes was heading northbound on Highway 71 and crossed into the southbound lane, colliding with a southbound 1990 Buick Regal driven by Walther.


MONTEVIDEO -- Three people received minor injuries in a one-vehicle rollover two miles north of Montevideo early Friday morning, the Minnesota State Patrol said. Injured was Wesley O. Husby, 63, of Clarkfield, the driver, and passengers, Chad W. Husby, 41, of Boyd, and Cody L. Husby, 16, of Boyd.

The State Patrol said the 2008 Chevrolet pickup was heading southbound on state Highway 29, ran off the road to the left, hit an approach and rolled. All three were taken to Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

KERKHOVEN -- Barbara J. Queenan, 51, of Kerkhoven was treated at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for minor injuries suffered in a one-car crash Friday night on state Highway 40, three miles west of the Kandiyohi County line, according to the State Patrol.

The 2000 Ford Taurus was heading eastbound on Highway 40 when it ran off the road to the right, hit an approach to 140th Avenue Northeast and landed on the roof in the ditch east of 140th Avenue.

Underage consumption

WILLMAR -- Willmar Police officers responded to several calls for underage consumption by persons attending Sonshine Festival in Willmar over the weekend.

Police said a male, 16, from New London was taken to Prairie Lakes Youth Programs for felony possession of marijuana.

Three females reported they were approached by male parties asking them if they want to buy drugs.

Other underage consumption reports involved two females from Alexandria, one female from Pengilly, one male (no address given), two males from Willmar and two females from Wisconsin.


WILLMAR -- Willmar Police investigated the break-in and theft of electronic items from a 1996 Volkswagen parked Sunday near the grounds of Sonshine Festival. The owner, from Fort Collins, Colo., said two iPods, a Sony CD player, two 12-inch Terminator sub speakers and an MTX Terminator amp, all valued at $650, were taken.

WILLMAR -- A 2004 Ford registered to Rice Home Medical of Willmar was stolen from the company's warehouse over the weekend and recovered in Le Sueur County, Willmar Police said Sunday.

WILLMAR -- Someone broke into a house in the 600 block of Fourth Street Southeast and stole a combination 15-inch Dynex TV and DVD player, Willmar Police. The unit was valued at $350.


WILLMAR -- A 16-year-old male was hurt in a knife assault in the 400 block of Charlotte Street early Saturday morning. Police said officers learned about the incident after the victim was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital. A total of three juvenile males were involved. No arrests have been made. No further information was available Sunday evening.

Fire calls

LAKE LILLIAN -- The Lake Lillian Fire Department was called at 12:04 p.m. Sunday to a barn fire at the Norman Balcik residence, 11110 30th St. S.E., Lake Lillian.

The Willmar Fire Department was paged to provide a tanker. No other information was available Sunday night.

SPICER -- Overheating was the suspected cause of a fire on a Redwood Falls man's pontoon boat at County Park 4 in Spicer on Sunday, according to a report to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office. No injuries were reported.

WILLMAR -- The Willmar Fire Department was called to a car fire at 6:16 p.m. on Friday in front of the Green Mill Restaurant, East Highway 12. No other information was available Sunday night.
