District Court

Kandiyohi County

- Jesus Immanuel Molina, 21, of Willmar was sentenced Tuesday to 60 days in jail, a $50 fine, 10 years of probation and 250 hours of community work service on a felony charge of motor vehicle theft.

He was also sentenced to 90 days in jail, with credit for 59 days already served, and a $50 fine on a domestic assault charge in the same case. He was ordered to pay $2,184.58 in restitution to the victim and her insurance company.

As part of a plea agreement, three additional misdemeanor charges were dismissed.

The charges were filed after a Willmar police officer was called around 11 p.m. April 28 to the emergency room of Rice Memorial Hospital to take a report on a domestic assault. A woman, who had an extremely black and blue eye, bloody ears and bruises and cuts on her arms and hands, reported that she had been assaulted by Molina and his sister in Regency East.

She said she had told Molina she couldn't see him anymore and that the siblings both beat her up before he took her vehicle, a 1997 Saturn.

The woman said she ran to a nearby home, from where a couple brought her to the hospital.

The officer was later notified of a vehicle, matching the description of the stolen car, which was found in Willmar Lake just off of Business 71 and Civic Center Drive.

- Jesus Gabriel "Jesse" Rivera, 26, of Willmar made his first appearance Wednesday on a felony charge of fourth-degree assault of a correctional employee for allegedly striking a jail officer in the face.

Unconditional bail was set at $1,000. His next appearance is Aug. 3.

According to the complaint, a Kandiyohi County Sheriff's deputy was called to the county jail around 9:15 a.m. July 16 on a report of an inmate assaulting a corrections officer. A video showed that Rivera had struck the officer in the face. The officer told the deputy he had gone to Rivera to tell him he wasn't going to be released from custody that day because he had pending charges against him and that Rivera hit him in the left side of the face. The officer was taken to urgent care for treatment of his injury, which included bruising, pain and a swollen eye.
