Spc. Wertish's body to be escorted home through Bird Island and Olivia today

OLIVIA -- The Patriot Guard will be escorting the body of Army National Guard Spc. James Wertish to Olivia today.

Wertish's body is scheduled to arrive and be met by his family at the National Guard base in St. Paul this morning.

A contingent of the Patriot Guard will escort Wertish and his family to the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia along U.S. Highway 212, arriving between 1:30 and 2 p.m.

According to Ron Mackedamz from the Patriot Guard in Willmar, one Patriot Guard group will escort the procession from the guard base. A group of riders from west central Minnesota will meet the procession along Highway 212 to take over the escort and bring Wertish home.

Towns along the route include Chaska, Norwood Young America, Glencoe, Stewart, Buffalo Lake, Hector, Bird Island and Olivia.
