Fire burns rural Kimball home

KIMBALL -- A rural Kimball family's home sustained major damage in a Saturday afternoon house fire, which apparently was started by a child playing with matches.

According to the Meeker County Sheriff's Office, dispatch received a call around 1:50 p.m. Saturday from Nora Hendrickson, who stated that her house was on fire and that her four children and three friends were out of the house and okay.

Sheriff's deputies, along with the Dassel and Litchfield fire departments, arrived to find a large quantity of smoke coming from the residence. It appeared that the fire had started in the basement area and there was major damage to the home. At this time the exact dollar amount of damage is unknown.

It was later found that the cause of the fire was from the homeowners' son who lit some wood on fire with matches in the basement.

Martin and Nora Hendrickson are the owners of the residence.
