Two killed, one injured in crash near Cosmos

COSMOS -- Two people have died and one was seriously injured in a fiery three-vehicle crash this morning on Minnesota Highway 7 east of Cosmos.

The Minnesota State Patrol said a semi truck pulling dual trailers and belonging to Moon Creek Ranch was eastbound on Highway 7 crossed the center line and sideswiped a westbound semi truck belonging to Conway Freight and then broadsided a 2006 Toyota in a private driveway.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Department said the driver of the Moon Creek Ranch semi was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the car also died at the scene, and the car driver was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Their names are being withheld until relatives can be notified.

The driver of the Conway Freight semi was not injured, the sheriff's office said.

The crash was reported at 7:22 a.m. today. The highway was closed until early afternoon while rescue, fire and law enforcement crews were on the scene.

The crash is under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol. Assisting at the scene were the Meeker County Sheriff's Office, Cosmos Ambulance, Cosmos Fire Department, Cosmos Rescue, Hutchinson Ambulance, Hutchinson Fire Department, Life Link III, Minnesota Department of Transportation and the state fire marshal's office.
