Farm accident

WILLMAR –– A rural Willmar man was rescued Friday afternoon after being caught in an auger on a farm southwest of town.

The unidentified 59-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

According to a press release, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s office received a call at 2:45 p.m. about a farm accident three miles southwest of Willmar where a man was caught in a grain sweep auger.

Sheriff’s deputies and other emergency personnel were able to free the man, who was transported to Rice Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The Blomkest Fire Responders, Blomkest Fire Department, Willmar Ambulance and Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad assisted at the scene.


WILLMAR –– One person was injured in an accident Sunday morning at the intersection of 15th Avenue and 30th Street Northwest.

According to information from the Willmar Police Department, a vehicle driven by Kayla Marie Gunderson, 22, of Willmar, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and collided with a van driven by Christine Schimerowski, 51, of New London.

A passenger in the van, Julie Schimerowski, 19, was taken to Rice Hospital and treated for injuries.

The accident was reported at 8:42 a.m.

SPICER –– A 17-year old female was cited for excessive speed for the conditions after rolling the vehicle she was driving Saturday evening in the 12000 block of County Road 40 Northeast.

The unidentified driver and a 13-year-old passenger were taken to Rice Hospital before officers arrived at the scene.

The accident was reported at 8 p.m.

HECTOR –– Two people were injured in a two-vehicle head-on collision at 7:13 p.m. Saturday in Hector.

According to the State Patrol, Eugene Nelson, 72, of Hector was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 south on State Highway 4 and slowed to turn into a business parking lot at the intersection of U.S. Highway 212 .

The State Patrol report said Nelson turned in front of a 1998 Honda Accord that was going north on Highway 4.

Nelson and the driver of the second car, Trent Pfeffer, 20, of Fairfax, were taken to the Renville County Hospital in Olivia for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Buffalo Lake Police Department, Hector Police Department, Renville County Sheriff’s Department, Hector Ambulance and Buffalo Lake Ambulance assisted the State Patrol at the scene.

HECTOR –– Six people were injured in a two-vehicle, broadside-type accident Sunday afternoon south of Hector.

According to the State Patrol, a 1997 Dodge Stratus driven by Kristina Rukwaru, 27, of Minnetonka was going east on Renville County Road 4 and a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Melissa Sather, 35, of Moorhead was going north on state Highway 4 when the vehicles collided at the intersection.

The report said Rukwaru stopped at the intersection, failed to see the Camry and continued into the intersection.

Both drivers and all four passengers in the Camry: Ryan Sather, 41, Grace Sather, 10, Jana Sather, 9 and Wyatt Sather, 4 — all of Moorhead — were taken to Renville County Hospital in Olivia with non-life-threatening injuries from the accident, which was reported at about 2 p.m.

The Renville County Sheriff’s office, Hector Ambulance and Hector Fire Department assisted at the scene.


WILLMAR –– Police are investigating a report that a 9mm Taurus handgun was stolen from a home in the 500 block of Fourth Street Southeast. The gun is black and silver with an empty 17-round clip. The theft was reported Saturday afternoon but may have occurred anytime between last Wednesday and Saturday.

WILLMAR –– Lawn furniture was reported stolen Friday evening in the 800 block of Lake Avenue Northwest. The items include a round, dark green metal table and four matching chairs.


WILLMAR –– Two tires on a vehicle were slashed over the weekend in the 700 block of 14th Street Southwest. The report was filed with police at 12:25 p.m. on Sunday.
