Storm water flooding hits 10th and Kandiyohi again, causes intersection pavement to buckle

The city street pavement buckled Wednesday morning following another storm water flooding event early Wednesday morning at the intersection at Kandiyohi Ave. and 10th Street S.W. in Willmar. This morning's incident was the third storm water flooding event in this intersection and neighborhood this year.

WILLMAR -- Water pressure from flooding that resulted from heavy rain apparently caused a portion of pavement in the intersection of 10th Street and Kandiyohi Avenue Southwest to buckle early today.

The intersection filled with water that also encroached on surrounding residential property at about 3 a.m. The water had subsided by about 5:15 a.m., according to Laura Becker, a homeowner at 1010 Kandiyohi Ave. S.W.

Three Willmar City Council members, Ron Christianson, Tim Johnson and Steve Ahmann, viewed the intersection damage this morning. Christianson and Johnson said their rain gauges received 3 inches of rain.

This was the third flooding incident in the intersection and neighborhood this year.
