Motorcycle tips over and slides into back of sports utiltiy vehicle

WILLMAR -- A motorcyle failed to stop in time to avoid a rear-end collision Monday at the intersection of Litchfield Avenue and First Street in Willmar.

According to Willmar Police Officer Mike Holme, the stoplight had turned green yet the sport utility vehicle directly in front of the motorcycle had yet to proceed. The motorcycle operator failed to notice the sport utility vehicle was still stopped before heading northbound at the sight of the green light.

Unable to stop in time to avoid a rear-end collision, the morotcycle operator tipped the bike over and slid on its side into the back of the sport utility vehicle.

The motorcycle operator was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital where he was treated.

According to Holme, the motorcyle operator was wearing a helmet.

Stolen car

LAKE LILLIAN -- A Lake Lillian woman reported to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office on Monday that her 1997 Pontiac was stolen from a location in the 12000 block of 90th Avenue Southeast. The car has not been found.


WILLMAR -- Willmar police received reports of two break-ins over the weekend.

Someone broke into the office at the Willmar Area Food Shelf in downtown Willmar. The office was damaged but nothing was missing, a Food Shelf official reported.

S and F Supply reported the front glass door was broken and the furniture store was entered. No furniture items were removed, but the owners said someone took $15 in change from the cash register. The damage was discovered Sunday.

Fire call

NEW LONDON -- The New London Fire Department was called at 10:48 a.m. Monday to the Roger Schliemann residence, 9901 187th Ave. N.E., where a 1996 Chevy Blazer was reported on fire in the driveway. Firefighters were on the scene for half an hour.


ATWATER -- One person was arrested and charged with second-degree assault with a knife following an incident Monday morning. The incident occurred at 11:23 a.m. on Breezy Point Road near Atwater. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office transported a teenager to juvenile detention.
