Ambulance checks passenger after crash near school
WILLMAR -- A passenger was checked by ambulance crew members, but not taken to the hospital, for treatment of possible injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash around 8 a.m. Monday near Roosevelt Elementary School.
According to the crash report by Willmar police, David Medina, 32, of Willmar, was driving a 1997 Ford pickup and attempted to make a left turn to go eastbound from the east parking lot entrance onto 19th Avenue. He turned in front of a westbound 2005 Buick driven by Kermit Carlson, 83, of Willmar, and the vehicles collided. A passenger in the Carlson vehicle, Phyllis Carlson, 78, was checked for a back injury. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
One driver airlifted after semis crash near Hector
HECTOR -- The driver of a semi truck involved in a two-truck crash around 10 a.m. Monday was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital.
According to the State Patrol, Stanley A. Munstermann, 54, of Dawson, was driving a 1999 International bulk propane truck westbound on U.S. Highway 212 about three miles east of Hector. Roger A. Gamradt, 54, of Hutchinson was also westbound in a 2000 Peterbilt truck and attempted to pass the propane truck. The trucks collided, sending Gamradt's truck into the ditch and causing it to roll.
Highway 212 was closed for a portion of the day Monday as crews attempted to tow the trucks. Also responding were the Buffalo Lake Police Department and Renville County Sheriff's Office.
WILLMAR -- A 28-year-old man from Kayenta, Ariz., was arrested on charges of driving while impaired around 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lakeview Inn, 1212 Business 71 N.E., after a two-vehicle crash was reported in the hotel parking lot.
WILLMAR -- Damage to a vehicle was reported around 10 p.m. Sunday along the 700 block of Johanna Avenue Southeast.
ATWATER -- Slashed tires on a trailer were reported around 7:30 a.m. Monday along Atlantic Avenue West.
NEW LONDON -- The theft of a laptop and diamond wedding ring was reported around noon Monday along Third Avenue Southeast.
WILLMAR -- The theft of a white wooden rocking chair from a front porch was reported around 12:15 a.m. Monday along the 400 block of Becker Avenue Southeast.
WILLMAR -- The theft of items from a home was reported around 1 p.m. Monday along the 1500 block of 59th Avenue Northwest.
- William Joseph Conrad, 18, of Benson, pleaded guilty and was sentenced Friday on a gross misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree assault of a corrections officer for spitting on a jailer Sept. 25.
He was sentenced to two years of probation, 365 days in jail, with 300 stayed and credit for 42 days served, and a $2,000 fine, with $1,250 stayed and $750 to pay.
The charge was filed after a Kandiyohi County sheriff's deputy was called to the jail around 12:15 a.m. Sept. 25 to investigate the assault of a corrections officer. A jailer reported that Conrad was being transported into the jail from Swift County, became uncooperative and violent and was put in a restraint chair. When a jailer went to check on his restraints, Conrad spit on the jailer's face.
