New solar-powered lights flash speed warning by ACGC
GROVE CITY -- New signs with solar powered flashing beacons have been installed on state Highway 4 near the Atwater-Cosmos- Grove City High School in Grove City.
The signs identify a school speed limit of 35 miles per hour within the school zone when the beacon lights are flashing, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The addition of the signs, estimated to cost $24,000, were not requested by the ACGC School District.
The school board was told in September that MnDOT intended to install the signs to increase the safety of students who commute to school using Highway 4.
The flashing signs were activated Dec. 7.
The reduced speed zone will be in effect during the opening and closing hours of the school day at 7:40 to 8:20 a.m. and 3:45 to 4:10 p.m.
