Winter weather advisory issued, 2-5 inches of snow for Willmar

WILLMAR -- The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for all of west central and south central Minnesota. Meeker, Kandiyohi, Swift and Stevens counties and counties south and west are in the advisory from noon today, for western counties, until 6 a.m. Friday.

Flurries or light snow will begin this afternoon in the far western areas of the state, with moderate snow developing after 3 p.m. for west central areas. The snow will reach the southern Twin Cities after 6 p.m.

The heaviest snow, 4 to 6 inches, is expected near the Minnesota River valley from Granite Falls through Mankato into Albert Lea. The Benson and Willmar areas can expect 2 to 5 inches of snow.

Winds are not expected to be very strong, so minimal blowing and drifting of snow is expected. However, travelers are urged to be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities.
