Tillage specialist to speak during Feb. 22 seminar in Willmar

WILLMAR -- Corn and soybean growers are invited to a tillage seminar from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Willmar Holiday Inn.

The guest speaker is nationally known tillage and planter expert Kevin Kimberley, who farms near Maxwell, Iowa.

As a producer for 37 years, Kimberley owned, operated and managed up to 3,500 acres. As an equipment tester, he spent 15 years working for companies such as Case IH and John Deere. He has facilitated presentations for area John Deere dealers, conducted seminars for Case IH and collaborated with company engineers and agronomists.

The speaker will discuss all aspects of tillage including chisel plow, ripper, moldboard plow, strip till and field cultivation. He will explain strengths and weaknesses of each system, how they adapt to different soil types, soil fertility needs and how each system needs to be managed for optimum plant growth. Kimberley will explore the causes of soil compaction, how it is affecting corn and soybean yields, what can be done to minimize its impact, and finally, how fall and spring tillage impact corn planting.

There is no charge for the seminar or lunch. For more information, contact your local Gold Country Seed dealer or the home office in Hutchinson at 1-800-795-8544.
