Barn fire

SPICER -- Lightning is a possible cause of a fire at an unused dairy barn on Long Lake Tuesday evening near the intersection of Long Lake Road and 60th Avenue near Spicer.

Spicer Fire Chief Mike Holme said the structure was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Holme said firefighters were able to save one corner of the barn and a trailer that was stored there.

The fire was reported by owner Glenn Arfstrom, who lives nearby. As the barn was unused and did not have electric power inside, it seemed likely that the fire was started by lightning from thunderstorms in the area Tuesday evening, he said.

Firefighters were at the scene for about three hours, he said, and there were no injuries.

Assisting at the scene were the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office and the New London, Pennock and Willmar fire departments. The Willmar Ambulance was on standby during the incident.

WILLMAR -- A 25-year-old Morton woman was arrested at Cub Foods, 2201 First Street S., at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday after authorities received a report of an uncooperative female shoplifter.

WILLMAR -- A 50-year-old Willmar woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated at about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday after she thought she was turning into an apartment building driveway off County Road 5 and mistakenly drove into an old septic system in the yard.

Gas line break

WILLMAR -- Centerpoint Energy was called to the area of the Food and Fuel at County Road 5 and First Avenue Northwest at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. A plow removing snow accidentally hit a gas line and meter, causing a leak.
