District Court

Meeker County

- Jesse Donald McWherter, 27, of Darwin, pleaded guilty Wednesday in District Court in Litchfield to two felony charges of criminal vehicular operation and a gross misdemeanor charge of driving while impaired, according to the Meeker County Attorney's Office.

Two other charges of felony criminal vehicular operation and a gross misdemeanor driving while impaired charge were dismissed.

The charges were filed against McWherter following a personal injury accident at 5:15 p.m. Feb. 13 southeast of Darwin. He was accused of being in the wrong lane and intoxicated. He had a 0.278 percent blood alcohol content, according to the Meeker County Sheriff's Office.

McWherter was driving a 1996 Ford F350 pickup north in the southbound lane of 685th Avenue, according to the Sheriff's Office. As his vehicle reached the top of the hill, the pickup struck a 1999 Ford Ranger driven by Patricia Gardin, 48, of Darwin.

Garding required treatment at Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield for her injuries.

A passenger in McWherter's vehicle fled from the scene but was arrested a short time later by sheriff's deputies for a probation violation. Shawn Paul Schroeder, 26, suffered lacerations to the face and required stitches.

Substantial bodily harm to each of the two victims is a factor in the two charges of criminal vehicular operation.

Those charges each carry a possible maximum sentence of three years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine, while the driving while impaired charge carries a possible sentence of one year incarceration, and/or a $3,000 fine.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 27.
