Kandiyohi County, Minn., landfill fees will increase Sept. 1

WILLMAR -- Starting next month, it'll cost more money for people to bring their own garbage to the Kandiyohi County landfill.

The County Commissioners agreed today to increase municipal solid waste fees for self-haulers.

Last month a rate increase was approved for commercial garbage haulers.

The last time the rate was increased was in 1991 when the tipping fee was set at $50.60 per ton with a minimum charge of $4 per ton for loads under 158 pounds.

The new rate includes a tipping fee of $53 per ton and a minimum rate of $6 per ton for any load at 158 pounds or less.

Last year about 400 tons of municipal solid waste was disposed of at the landfill by self-haulers, which generated about $20,240 in revenue.

The new rates will generate an additional $1,000 in annual revenue.
