MORRIS, Minn. -- Divers in west-central Minnesota have recovered the body of a local police chief who went missing after his boat capsized in a Stevens County lake.

Rescuers recovered the body of 50-year-old Donald Heikkinen on Monday about 4 p.m. He was the police chief in nearby Hancock.

The sheriff's office received a 911 call late Sunday night reporting that a boat had capsized on Long Lake.

A KARE-TV report says six people were on board but only five made it back to shore.

Sheriff Randy Willis tells The Associated Press it's too early to know whether alcohol was a factor. He says the body was being sent to Ramsey County for an autopsy.

Long Lake is about eight miles east of Morris in Stevens County.

Authorities are searching for the Hancock police chief who is missing following a boat capsize incident Sunday night on Long Lake in eastern Stevens County.

The Stevens County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at 10:18 p.m. Sunday saying a boat had capsized on Long Lake. Six people were on board but only five individuals made it to shore.

A family member Sunday confirmed the missing person was Donald Heikkinen, who is the chief of police of Hancock. Heikkinen has been the Hancock Police Chief since about Oct. 2010, according to the Morris Sun Tribune.

The Steven County Sheriff's Department told KSTP-TV that the boat is registered to Brian Krupke of Hancock, Minn.

Stevens County officials suspended the search late Sunday night due to fog. They resumed the search Monday morning, but murky water made the search difficult.

The Stevens County Sheriff's Office has requested help from water rescue and recovery teams from Hennepin and Crow Wing counties.

Teams from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Douglas and Pope counties are also assisting in the search.

Long Lake is about located about three miles southwest of Cyrus or eight miles east of Morris in Stevens County.
