Winter weather advisory hits central Minnesota tonight thru Monday

WILLMAR - Freezing drizzle and rain is making roads slick tonight and snow tomorrow morning could continue to make travel dicey as a winter weather advisory is expanded for the region.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Department sent an alert tonight saying the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for central and south central Minnesota thru Monday.

Freezing rain is expected to transition to snow by Monday morning with 1-2 inches expected to accumulate by noon, according to the Weather Service.

Winds will increase to 15-20 mph across the area tomorrow morning causing blowing and drifting snow and reducing visibility.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's department is warning motorists to be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution when driving.

Roads were slippery before the drizzle started this afternoon with numerous accidents reported over the weekend that were caused by icy roads. None of those accidents resulted in injuries.
