Willmar City Council considers ordinance tonight adjusting ward and precinct boundaries

WILLMAR -- The Willmar City Council will consider an ordinance tonight that will adjust the ward and precinct boundaries. The council will consider the ordinance after taking comments from the public during a hearing at 7:03 p.m. today in the chambers at the Municipal Utilities Building, 700 Litchfield Ave. S.W.

The adjustment in the wards and precincts is necessary to rebalance the population among the city's four wards after the 2010 Census showed population had increased 6.87 percent from 18,351 in 2000 to 19,612 in 2010.

Due to significant growth in Ward 1, which covers everything north of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway tracks, the population distribution in the four wards is skewed.

Among other business items, the council will take comments from the public during the open forum, receive reports from the Finance Committee and Public Works/Safety Committee and honor long-time City Attorney Rich Ronning who retires at the end of March.
