Donors helping Clara City, Minn., mother who led push for Jacob's Law to acquire a van for her family

CLARA CITY -- Sarah Guggisberg took on her quest for Jacob's Law with the determination to make as many trips to the Capitol in St. Paul as it required, no matter what.

Her only concern was whether her 1994 model Lexus with nearly 260,000 miles on it would see her through.

It did, but with hardly a mile to spare. Gov. Mark Dayton on April 4 signed the legislation requiring that both parents are notified when a child is the victim of abuse or neglect. The next day Guggisberg had no more than rolled into Marshall when the engine on her vehicle gasped its last.

Soon, she will be returning home to Clara City with a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country van thanks to help from donors. Guggisberg said Friday that Roth Chevrolet in Willmar and a private donor learned of her plight and are helping her acquire the van.

She needs to raise $2,000 yet toward the cost of the van.

Guggisberg said the van will be a true godsend. The five-passenger Lexus was unable to accommodate Guggisberg and her five children, two of whom require car seats.
