Renville County, Minn., seeks tips about suspicious fire

OLIVIA -- The Renville County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to help provide information about the cause of a suspicious fire that destroyed two mobile homes on early on April 24.

At about 3:10 a.m. that day, a Renville County deputy on patrol saw a structure on fire along 430th Street south of 890th Avenue in Osceola Township about 10 miles northeast of Bird Island. The deputy discovered that a trailer house was on fire and that a second trailer house had been completely destroyed by fire. It was later learned that the farm site was abandoned and that no one had been living in either of the houses at the time of the fire. Both trailer houses were a total loss.

The circumstances surrounding the fire are suspicious and the fire is being investigated as arson, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 320-523-1161 or the Minnesota State Fire Marshall Arson hotline at 1-800-723-2020. A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered for information leading to the identification of the person or people responsible.
