Darwin man faces multiple charges

LITCHFIELD -- Jeffrey Alan Truelson, 45, of Darwin is in the Meeker County Jail awaiting his first court appearance on charges stemming from several incidents that began with a violation of a domestic abuse-no contact order Monday afternoon in Ellsworth Township.

A short time after that report, a deputy tried to contact Truelson and saw him in a vehicle near his home. Truelson refused to stop and escaped through a residential yard.

An arrest warrant was issued for Truelson, and a formal complaint was filed charging him with first-degree burglary, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, interfering with a 911 call and violation of a domestic abuse-no contact order. Bond was set at $75,000.

Truelson was spotted Wednesday afternoon in Hutchinson. He again avoided apprehension.

On Thursday morning, a confidential tip led law enforcement to an address in Rockford, where Truelson was arrested.

The investigation involved sheriff's offices from Meeker and Wright counties and agents with the CEE-VI Drug and Gang Task Force.

WILLMAR -- Willmar police are investigating a stabbing and assault reported Thursday evening.

A man went to Rice Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department with three stab wounds Thursday, and the hospital notified police at about 9:30 p.m.

Police Chief David Wyffels said the victim had been stabbed and assaulted, but he would not tell officers who had stabbed him or where. They investigated the first story he told, and that was found to be untrue, Wyffels said.

Having an uncooperative victim makes the investigation much more difficult, Wyffels said, but the investigation will continue.

* Juan Carlos Patino, 33, of Willmar was released on his own recognizance Friday after a court appearance on a felony charge of domestic abuse and a misdemeanor charge of theft.

The felony charge stems from Patino's having violated an order for protection two or more times within 10 years of a previous conviction. His next court date is Aug. 27.

According to the court file, Patino was arrested after an incident Wednesday at a home in Willmar in which he threatened a woman and took her cell phone. The woman had an order for protection in effect against Patino. A witness also told police that Patino had been at the house and left with the phone.

Patino later denied being at the address and said he did not have the phone.

He has previous convictions for fifth-degree assault in 2006, third-degree assault in 2010 and interfering with a 911 call in 2012.

As conditions of his release, Patino was ordered to stay away from his alleged victim and her home. He was also ordered to have no use of possession of firearms or dangerous weapons.

* Daniel Guevara, 53, of Willmar made his first appearance Friday on felony charges of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and terroristic threats.

Guevara is accused of threatening a man in downtown Willmar with a knife that he kept hidden inside a cane.

He was ordered to pay $10,000 cash or bond for unconditional release from jail and $1,000 cash or bond for release with conditions. The conditions include no contact with the alleged victim and no use or possession of dangerous weapons or firearms.

He was arrested Wednesday after a man flagged a police officer down and told him that Guevara had threatened him with a knife. The man said he had asked Guevara to pay for cleaning his car, because Guevara had dumped orange juice and beer inside it a few days before. When the man threatened to call law enforcement, Guevara allegedly said, "If you call the cops, you're a goner; you're going to die," and then threatened him with the knife.

The alleged victim said he pushed Guevara down and left to contact law enforcement.

Officers found Guevara sitting on a bench downtown. According to the criminal complaint, Guevara appeared to be intoxicated and had a cane with him. When questioned about the cane, he handed it to an officer who found that it hid a dagger-like knife.
