Hoja offers variety of Asian dishes; looks to add more

WILLMAR -- Just as sushi chef Will Wei prepares a Tokyo roll with a series of well-practiced steps, the future of the new restaurant where he works is in the early steps of a careful plan to offer more dining options.

Hoja All Asian Cusine, located in the former Wendy's building on First Street South, opened Aug. 15.

Wei works at Hoja's sushi bar where he prepares sushi and sashimi. Sushi is a Japanese food consisting of cooked rice wrapped around other ingredients, usually including raw fish. Sashimi, also Japanese, is fresh raw meat or fish, sliced into thin pieces.

Sushi and the other dishes the restaurant offers are what acting manager Yang Wei Lin describes as Asian fusion or oriental mix.

Currently that mix includes such Chinese dishes as General Tso's chicken and lo mein, Japanese entrees including hibachi and teriyaki, and Thai noodles known as pad thai.

There's also a variety of fried rice and an option called healthy delight that Yang says has "low sodium and is not too salty; not too greasy."

But Hoja's current menu is an early step in a long-range plan.

On Tuesday night the Willmar City Council approved a liquor license that will allow Hoja to serve 3.2 beer.

More Indonesian or Malaysian dishes will be added, Yang said. Other Asian cuisine, such as Taiwanese and Korean could be added to the menu next year.

"We're trying to prevent our guests from being bored," Yang said.
