Meeting slated Thursday in Willmar, Minn., to help shape future funding of roads

WILLMAR -- The Minnesota Department of Transportation is looking for input on how to invest in the region's transportation system for the next 20 years.

MnDOT is hosting a stakeholder engagement meeting on Minnesota's 20-year State Highway Investment Plan from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services Building, 2200 23rd St. N.E. in Willmar.

Input will help shape the way the state invests $18 billion in Minnesota's 12,000-mile state highway network over the next 20 years, according to MnDOT. Participant feedback will be one of the key inputs that MnDOT uses to establish investment priorities.

The topics include: The condition of pavement, bridges and roadside infrastructure; safety improvements; the movement of goods and people between major trade centers statewide and within the Twin Cities metropolitan area; bicycle and pedestrian accessible facilities; and improvements to address regional and community concerns.

The meeting will include a brief presentation that will describe the State Highway Investment Plan and how MnDOT uses performance measures, risk and scenario planning to shape future highway projects.

A scenario planning input session will allow participants an opportunity to give MnDOT feedback on how the investment in the state highway network.

Participants may also use an online budgeting tool to build a future investment scenario by using the State Highway Investment Plan.
