Train cars derail near Clara City; BNSF crews cleaning up

CLARA CITY -- BNSF Railway officials are cleaning up the scene of a train car derailment that happened Thursday just outside of Clara City.

According to the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office, deputies and Clara City police officers responded to a call of a possible train derailment at 100th Avenue Southeast and State Highway 7, southwest of Clara City. They arrived to find that five train cars had become derailed. None of the train cars that derailed contained any hazardous materials and no one was injured.

Hutchinson woman to hospital after crash west of Dassel

DASSEL -- A 26-year-old Hutchinson woman was taken to the Hutchinson Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening west of Dassel.

According to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, Katie Hoeschen was driving a 2011 Mazda sport utility vehicle that collided just after 7 p.m. with a 2000 Chevy van driven by Gregory Kieffer, 53, of Dassel, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 12 and State Highway 15.

Also responding were the Dassel Rescue squad, Gold Cross Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Patrol.


WILLMAR -- Willmar police received several theft reports Friday.

Someone stole an iPhone from the girls' locker room at the Senior High School.

An individual reported to police that he believes a pickpocket took his wallet while at Menards on Wednesday morning. The wallet contained $240 in cash, a debit card, credit card and driver's license.

The owner of an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway of a residence in the 200 block of Anthony Street Southeast said someone entered the vehicle and took a wallet containing a bank debit card, a license to be a minister, driver's license and Social Security card.


NEW LONDON -- A small amount of change was taken from the bedroom of a residence in the 800 block of Highway 9 Northwest in New London, according to a report Thursday to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office. Entry was gained by breaking a door.

* Diego Arron Jasso, 35, of Willmar, made his first appearance Friday on a felony charge of domestic assault by strangulation, plus two misdemeanor charges of domestic and fifth-degree assault.

Unconditional bail was set at $50,000. His next appearance is Nov. 8.

According to the complaint, a woman reported to Willmar Police July 22 that she had been assaulted by Jasso at a southeast Willmar residence. She said that Jasso attempted to strangle her, pushed her around and hit her.

The woman had visible injuries on her face and marks on her neck that looked like pressure injuries from three fingers. She also had bruises and visible injuries on her shoulder, knee and legs.
