Wind chill advisory issued for west central Minn.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory and hazardous weather outlook for this evening and into Tuesday for much of west central and central Minnesota.

The forecast calls for temperatures ranging from -10 to -20 degrees and winds from 5 to 10 mph, resulting in expected wind chill values between -25 and -30 degrees.

The wind chill advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. tonight to 9 a.m. Tuesday and includes Kandiyohi, Meeker, Yellow Medicine, Renville, Lac qui Parle, Swift, Chippewa, Pope and Stearns counties, as well as parts of southern Minnesota.

Temperatures should warm up later in the day Tuesday, with highs around 11 degrees.

The National Weather Service warns that low wind chills can lead to frostbite and hypothermia. If heading out for New Year’s Eve celebrations tonight, make sure to wear a hat and gloves.
