The Willmar Fire Department was called to Nelson International on East Highway 12 around 10:45 a.m. Friday to rescue a worker stranded on the roof of an outbuilding.

Mike McDowell, 40, of Kandiyohi, who works for Trace Plumbing and Heating, was working when a sudden burst of snow made the metal roof dangerously sleep. He clung to a vent pipe until help arrived.

“It got cold up there,” he said through chattering teeth once back on the ground. “The tin roof just sucks the heat out of you.”
