Atwater, Minn., bakery treats headed to Washington for Klobuchar open house

WASHINGTON — Crispies from Thompson Bakery and Coffeehouse in Atwater will be served at an open house to be hosted Monday by U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar in Washington, D.C.

The open house will be held so that Klobuchar can greet Minnesotans visiting Washington to attend the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Klobuchar served the Atwater bakery’s treats to guests at a weekly coffee gathering in her Washington office in May 2011. The Minnesota Morning gatherings are held each Thursday and feature specialties from across Minnesota each week.

The inauguration open house will also serve other foods from Minnesota.

“Thompson Bakery and Coffeehouse is one of the many family-owned businesses we have across Minnesota that places a high value on being part of the local community,” Klobuchar said in a statement from her office. “I’m looking forward to serving their apple, blueberry, cherry and raspberry Crispies from Atwater for our guests to enjoy at this open house.”

The Thompson Bakery and Coffeehouse is a family bakery and café. Audrey and Terry Thompson help run the business and their son, Joel, is the baker.
