Update: Some schools closed; others delayed because of icy roads

WILLMAR – Freezing rain and icy roads this morning has resulted in some school closing for the day, while other districts are still scheduled to hold classes after a two-hour delayed start.

While the list could change, currently school is canceled today for New London-Spicer, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, BOLD and Minnewaska.

Willmar, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Litchfield and Hancocks school districts had a two-hour delay to the start of classes.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is reporting that roads in west central Minnesota are slippery and partially covered with ice.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory that will be in effect from 2 this afternoon to Wednesday morning for much of the region with rain and sleet eventually turning to snow with 2-4 inches of new snow accumulation expected.
