NLS student to perform in Sydney
NEW LONDON — Melaney Madsen, a student at New London-Spicer High School, has been selected for the 2017 High School Honors Performance Series at Sydney Opera House in Australia.
Madsen will perform as first soprano with the Honors Choir.
She auditioned earlier this year. According to a news release announcing her selection, acceptance to the elite group is based on talent, dedication and achievements demonstrated in her application and audition recording.
She is among the 150 student performers selected from more than 18,000 applicants from around the world.
Madsen has studied music for 10 years and is a member of the New London-Spicer High School Concert Choir. She has performed at Carnegie Hall two times, was awarded "Best at Site" honors with a perfect score in the Minnesota State High School Choral Competition in 2016, has been selected as a member of the American Choral Directors Association Minnesota State Honors Choir twice, performed at the State Fair, was asked to sing the national anthem for the Willmar Stingers on opening night and has opened for a platinum-selling recording artist.
Finalists will practice in Sydney for six days in July under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Ames and other world-renowned conductors. The performance will be July 10 and is open to the public.
