Update: Central Minn. driver killed as fuel, grain trucks collide in Grant County

Body:

A Sebeka man was killed Monday morning when the semi-truck he was driving collided with another semi at a highway intersection north of Morris.

Roads were temporarily closed during the incident because one of the semis was transporting a hazardous material in the tanker.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Joseph Cecil Hensel, 61, of Sebeka, was killed when the 2003 Freightliner he was driving collided with a 2014 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Alan Lee Powell, 63, of Mexico, Missouri.

The report indicates Powell, who was transporting a tanker with fuel, was going west on state Highway 27, stopped at the intersection with U.S. Highway 59 and then pulled out in front of Hensel, who was traveling south on Highway 59 in a semi with a grain trailer.

Hensel attepted to brake and then struck the rear of the other semi.

Hensel, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was killed on impact.

Powell, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured.

Road blockades were set up by law enforcement and fire departments in a one square mile area around the crash site because of the hazardous material in the tanker.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office and emergency crews from Barrett, Hoffman and the Minnesota Department of Transportation were at the scene of the crash, which was reported at 10:24 a.m.
