Several city, school elections slated Tuesday in west central Minn.
BENSON — Voters in two area communities will go to the polls Nov. 7 to elect mayors and council members, while voters in a number of area school districts will decide special school board elections and whether to renew operating levies.
The following is based on filings for office on the Secretary of State's website and information gathered from city and school officials.
City of Benson
Two candidates are seeking to succeed Mayor Gary Landmark as mayor of Benson. Landmark is not seeking re-election. Terri Collins, a member of the Benson City Council, and Anita Flodstrom have filed. If Collins is elected, a special election would be required to fill her council term through 2019.
Five candidates have filed for two positions on the council. Incumbent Jack Evenson is joined by Mark Schreck, Brad Johnson, Terry Flodstrom and Larry Smith in seeking seats.
Council member Stephanie Heinzig is not seeking re-election.
City of Sacred Heart
Voters will elect a mayor and two City Council members in Sacred Heart. Dan Agre has re-filed for the mayor's position and is unopposed.
Three candidates have filed for two council seats. Candidates are incumbent Randy Johnson and Tara Agre and Jeremy Pharr.
Jacob Rooney has filed for the vacant seat on the BBE School Board. The seat was held by Kim Trustheim, who resigned from the board in July.
Lac qui Parle Valley
Stephen Enger has filed for the Lac qui Parle Valley School Board seat vacated by Richard Adams in January. Enger has held the seat since mid-summer.
Marcia R. Provencher has filed for the Litchfield School Board seat vacated by Marlin Schutte. Provencher has held the seat by appointment. The term expires Jan. 7, 2019.
The MACCRAY School District is asking district voters to renew a $342.36 operating levy that is expiring. The request is to maintain the current levy without an increase.
Benson school levy
The Benson School District is asking voters to renew a $530-per-pupil operating levy that is expiring. The request is to maintain the current levy without an increase.
