Carris Health: What's in the name
WILLMAR — For much of the negotiation process, it was simply referred to as "Newco," or "new company."
Last month Affiliated Community Medical Centers, Rice Memorial Hospital and CentraCare Health unveiled the name chosen for the new nonprofit joint entity they hope to implement Jan. 1: Carris Health.
The three organizations turned to their own employees for ideas and suggestions. More than 60 were submitted from the staff of ACMC, Rice Hospital and Willmar Medical Services. A few suggestions even came from CentraCare staff.
The candidates ran the gamut, said Dr. Cindy Smith, president of ACMC. Some names were conceptual. Others were based on acronyms, word combinations or geographic references.
Leaders of the three organizations whittled down the list to five finalists and chose "the one that made the most sense," Smith said.
The name "Carris Health" contains elements of "care" and "care is," reflective of the mission of the new entity, she said.
"We believe this is a name we will define as quality health care," she said.
