House fire

WILLMAR — The Willmar Fire Department was called around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday to a house fire at 721 11th St. N.W. and remained at the scene for approximately one hour.

According to Fire Chief Gary Hendrickson, crews arrived to find smoke coming from near the electrical meter for the home. They had city utility crews disconnect the power to the home and found that the fire was contained to the walls of the home.

No one was injured in the incident. The cause of the blaze is suspected to be electrical in nature. Hendrickson noted that the concrete floor of the home, built on a slab, had cracked and heaved earlier in the day, possibly putting strain on the house’s electrical system.

District Court

Kandiyohi County

* Kelsey Marie Mack, 19, of Duluth, made her first appearance Wednesday on a felony charge of check forgery for allegedly stealing another person’s check and forging it to purchase a vehicle, which she and others used to take a road trip to Florida.

Unconditional bail was set at $10,000. Her next appearance is April 18.

According to the report, a man reported to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 16 that he had sold a 2000 Dodge Durango to Mack for $1,400 on Sept. 9. The check, on another woman’s account, had been returned for insufficient funds.

The owner of the account reported that the check had been stolen and forged by Mack.

On Oct. 16, local law enforcement was informed that the vehicle had been located and impounded in Florida.

The investigating officer received a phone message from Mack, in which she allegedly admitted to stealing the check blank and using it to purchase the vehicle. She said she and friends went from Duluth to Florida for a road trip and that she returned to Minnesota, but left the vehicle in Florida with the friends.
