GRANITE FALLS — Meagan E. Siemieniewski, 16, of Sacred Heart died Friday morning in a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 212 between Granite Falls and Montevideo.

According to information from the Minnesota State Patrol website, Siemieniewski was driving a 1999 Ford pickup traveling south on Highway 212, and Mitchell D. Hanson, 57, of Elk River was driving north on the highway pulling an oversized load when the vehicles collided.

Siemieniewski died in the crash. Hanson was transported to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

The crash was reported at 11:36 a.m. Shortly before 4:30 p.m., a State Patrol dispatcher said troopers were still at the scene, and more information would be released as the investigation continues. The Patrol closed Highway 212 between Granite Falls and Montevideo for the afternoon.

According to records released around 4 p.m., Siemieniewski was not wearing a seat belt, and the air bag in her vehicle did deploy.

Assisting the State Patrol at the scene were the Chippewa County and Yellow Medicine sheriff’s offices, Montevideo and Granite Falls ambulances and Montevideo Fire Department.
