Advisory for blowing, drifting snow this morning across Minn.

WILLMAR – Blowing and drifting snow this morning has most of Minnesota under a winter weather advisory until 10 a.m.

The National Weather Service says brisk northwest winds at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts to 30, will persist this morning, causing blowing and drifting snow.

Visibilities could be less than a mile at times, the Weather Service says, and motorists should be alert for icy patches due to drifting. Travel could be difficult in places, especially on secondary roads. Only far northwestern and far southwestern Minnesota are outside the advisory area.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reports on its 511 traffic and road conditions website that road conditions across west central and southwest Minnesota are improved from Monday in many locations, but significant stretches of road are still rated difficult or hazardous due to drifting snow, ice and reduced visibility due to blowing snow.

Check conditions before traveling this morning at or call 511.
