Forecast: Snow and sleet to turn into moderate to heavy snow this evening

Snow fall mixed with sleet and rain at time has started across parts of west central Minnesota. This current weather system will transition to all snow from west to east this afternoon into tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for west central Minnesota through 10 a.m. Friday.

Moderate to heavy snow will continue today into this evening across west central, southwest and south central Minnesota.

Winds of 20 to 30 mph will accompany the falling snow and further reduce visibilities at times this afternoon and tonight.

Snowfall accumulations between 5 and 9 inches are expectinged generally northwest of a line from St. James to Minneapolis to Fredrice, Wis.

Lesser amounts in the 1 to 5 range are expected southeast of this line,k across portions of south central minnesota and west central Wisconsin.
