One injured in stabbing incident; suspect sought

WILLMAR — A Willmar man was seriously injured in a stabbing incident early Friday morning and police are looking for a suspect.

The stabbing is believed to have happened after two 29-year old men had spent the day Thursday drinking together in a downtown Willmar apartment in the 300 block of Fourth Street Southwest.

The victim and the suspect “knew each other,” said Willmar Police Chief Dave Wyffels.

The two argued and the suspect allegedly swung a knife and stabbed the second man in the side. Wyffels described the wound as serious.

A third individual heard the argument, intervened and took the victim to Rice and the suspect reportedly fled.

Police were notified of the stabbing after getting a call from the hospital.

Wyffels said they know the identity of the suspect, who faces a felony charge of second degree assault, but don’t know where he is.

“He’s somewhere in the wind,” said Wyffels. “We’re looking for him.”
