Another dusting of spring snow expected over weekend

WILLMAR – Enjoy the sunshine today because the forecast for Sunday and Monday – and much of next week – looks a bit dismal.

According to the National Weather Service there’s an 80 percent chance of snow to hit the Willmar area over night.

The good news is that accumulation is expected to be less than an inch. The bad news is that it will be added onto the 7-8 inches of snow still remaining from Thursday’s storm.

Sunday and Monday could offer a wintery mix of rain, snow and freezing rain. The region could get another ½ inch of snow on Sunday.

The gloom continues on Monday with a 60 percent chance of rain or snow.

Early forecasts call for 1-3 inches of new snow on Monday, accompanied by north winds of 10-15 mph.

Tuesday could be a bright spot before there’s another chance of precipitation the rest of the week.

There’s a hint that spring could be coming, however, with temperatures expected to be in the mid-50s by next Friday.

It’s good to be reminded that snow isn’t unusual for the third week of April in Minnesota.

In 1970 there was snow falling over much of the state and in 1910 the northeastern part of the state got 6 ½ inches of new snow.
