Willmar man loses money, cop finds it

WILLMAR — Willmar resident Arthur Toutges, 61, reported to Willmar Police at about 10:48 a.m. Saturday that he lost a pouch containing more than $1,000 in cash at Little Dukes.

But he and his money were soon reunited after officer Samuel Neubauer searched the parking lot and found the pouch with the money untouched in a cart.

Sgt. Michael Markkanen said Toutges had withdrawn the money from the bank and had done some shopping. He then pushed the cart outside and left the pouch in the cart. Markkanen said Neubauer first checked the carts outside.

“Everything worked out well,’’ Markkanen said.

Minor consumption

PRINSBURG — Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s deputies cited two individuals from Clara City, one 18 and the other 19, for underage consumption Saturday at what was described as a graduation party in the 9000 block of 195th Avenue Southwest. Deputies were called at 10:35 p.m.

They found the individuals hiding in the woods with beer in a cooler.


WILLMAR — Willmar Police were called at 5:46 a.m. Saturday to an apartment building in the 1400 block of Fifth Street Southwest and arrested two adults and one juvenile for breaking glass in the stairway and lights in the hallway.

A resident called to report the incident. The juvenile was released to a guardian and the adults were ticketed and released.

WILLMAR — A 25-year-old Willmar man was arrested by police and a 15-year-old Willmar male was cited for possession of stolen property. Police were called at 2:10 a.m. to the 400 block of Minnesota Avenue Southeast where the adult was arrested on an outstanding warrant and the juvenile was cited as a result of recovery of a stolen motor vehicle.

Search for missing man

LITCHFIELD — The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office was called at 4:33 a.m. Saturday to assist the Litchfield Police Department in trying to locate a man who was reported missing and last seen sleeping at the Litchfield Water Treatment Facility grounds. Litchfield Rescue and Fire Department also assisted.

While searching the area, police received information that the missing individual, Kyle Garfin, 30, of Litchfield, had woke up and returned to his home before the incident was reported.


KINGSTON — The driver and five passengers were treated at Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield for non-life-threatening injuries suffered Saturday in  a one-vehicle rollover.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office dispatched Kimball Fire Department, Kimball Rescue, Gold Cross Ambulance, Watkins Ambulance and Minnesota State Patrol at 5:27 a.m. to the crash just north of Kingston on state Highway 15.

They found Jonathon Wanha, 19, of Litchfield, was driving south on Highway 15 when the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta he was driving went into the west ditch and rolled. The patrol is investigating the crash.

BUFFALO LAKE — The Minnesota State Patrol said Andrew R. Best, 17, of Hector, suffered a non-life-threatening injury Saturday when the 1999 Chevy Blazer he was driving rear-ended a 2003 Chevy Avalanche driven by Homero R. Vasquez, 47, of Hector.

The patrol said Vasquez and his passenger, Johnny R. Guzman, 34, city unknown, did not suffer injuries.

The patrol said the crash occurred on U.S. Highway 212 at Buffalo Lake. The Avalanche was waiting to turn north onto Renville County Road 8 from Highway 212 and was rear-ended by the Blazer.

The Hector Police Department and Renville County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
