K-9 Cooper tracks suspect
HAWICK — A Stearns County suspect was taken into custody after being tracked by Kandiyohi County's canine officer Cooper. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office assisted in a search for the suspect, who had fled a vehicle on foot near Hawick sometime after 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Cooper and his handler, Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Deputy Shawn Swanson, tracked the suspect for approximately one mile. He was found around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, hiding in tall grass in a grassland area in the 22800 block of 160th Street Northeast, Hawick.
He was wanted in Stearns County on charges of domestic abuse and burglary, and Kandiyohi County had a warrant for his arrest and detention.
Former Granite Falls man dies in I-35 crash
WEBSTER TOWNSHIP, RICE COUNTY — A former Granite Falls man died in a three-vehicle crash at 5:04 a.m. Wednesday on I-35 in Rice County.
Matthew Kling, 44, of Lonsdale and formerly of Granite Falls, died when the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze he was driving struck a camper that had crossed over into his lanes, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
A 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a camper and driven by Noah Patrick Finch, 19, of Farmington, was southbound on I-35. The Silverado lost control on a snow- and ice-covered roadway and crossed over into the northbound lanes, blocking the road.
Kling was northbound on I-35 and struck the rear of the camper. A 2013 Ford Focus, driven by Alex Robert Degezelle, 27, of Owatonna, was also northbound and also struck the camper, coming to a rest against the guardrail.
No injuries were reported to the other drivers or a passenger in the Silverado.
WILLMAR — A Willmar resident reported the theft of a household aluminum radiator on Thursday morning.
A Willmar resident reported the theft Wednesday afternoon of property from the back of her pickup truck on the 700 block of 19th Avenue Southeast in Willmar.
