Northern Minn. man, 52, dies while snowmobiling

EMILY, Minn. -- A 52-year-old Crosslake man has died after he was found on his snowmobile on a trail near Emily in north-central Minnesota.

The possible snowmobile crash was on a trail near Ruth Lake, north of the city of Emily, at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, according to Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department Capt. Scott Goddard.

“Two snowmobilers were traveling together when the first one noticed that his companion was no longer behind him, so he went back down the trail and found him,” Goddard said.

“It’s undetermined exactly what happened so far. We’re not sure if it was a medical issue or exactly what took place -- just that the snowmobile did not appear to be damaged and then once first responders arrived, he was pronounced dead.”

The deceased’s name was withheld pending notification of next-of-kin, according to Goddard.

His body was taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office.
