Driver killed after being thrown from pickup in Twin Cities
EAGAN, Minn. -- A 59-year-old Apple Valley man was killed Thursday, Aug. 2, after being thrown from his pickup truck in a single-vehicle crash in Eagan.
Thomas Robert Niederer, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene of the wreck, which happened just after noon at southbound Minnesota 77 and Minnesota 13, the Minnesota State Patrol said.
Niederer’s GMC Canyon Pickup ran off the road, struck a guardrail and rolled down an embankment, according to the state patrol.
His passenger, Robert Thomas Niederer, 26, also of Apple Valley, was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with injuries not considered life-threatening, the state patrol said. He was wearing a seat belt.
