Former Granite Falls man dies in I-35 crash

WEBSTER TOWNSHIP, RICE COUNTY – A former Granite Falls died in a three-vehicle mishap on I-35 in Rice County at 5:04 a.m. on Wednesday.

Matthew Kling, 44, of Lonsdale and formerly of Granite Falls, died when the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze he was driving struck a camper that had crossed over into his lanes, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

A 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a camper and driven by Noah Patrick Finch, 19, of Farmington was southbound on I-35. The Silverado lost control on a snow and ice covered roadway and crossed over into the northbound lanes, blocking the road.

Kling was northbound on I-35 and struck the rear of the camper. A 2013 Ford Focus, driven by Alex Robert Degezelle, 27, of Owatonna, was also northbound and also struck the camper, coming to a rest against the guardrail.

No injuries were reported to the other drivers or a passenger in the Silverado.
