Man arrested after St. Paul woman found dead, girl brutally assaulted
ST. PAUL -- A 33-year-old man has been arrested after a 16-year-old girl survived a brutal physical and sexual assault and a relative of hers was found dead in a St. Paul townhouse on Monday, July 23.
Officers arrested Ivan Dan Walker, 33, on suspicion of kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct. He is a person of interest in the homicide investigation, police said.
Officers arrested a man known both to the teen and the 39-year-old woman who died.
The teen “was choked as well, pretended to be dead, held hostage for five hours” and was raped during that time, according to the girl’s mother.
Police were called to the 1500 block of East Jessamine Lane between Hazelwood Street and Ames Avenue just before 7 a.m. Monday on a report of a death. Police have not released the name of the woman who died.
The teen has been released from the hospital, her mother said.
The death of the woman is being investigated as a homicide, but police said the Ramsey County medical examiner’s office has not determined the exact cause and manner of death.
