Area schools closing early, in advance of blizzard

Numerous area school districts are closing early today

As of 10:45 a.m., the following districts had announced early closings: ACGC (all activities cancelled), Belview Learning Center, BOLD and St. Mary’s of Bird Island, Buffalo Lake/Hector/Stewart; Central Minnesota Christian School of Prinsburg, Cosmos Learning Center, Echo Charter School, Litchfield, New London/Spicer, North Central Learning Center in Willmar, Redwood Area Public and parochial, Renville County West, Willmar Community Christian and Willmar.

A blizzard warning was issued by the National Weather Service for a large portion of the west central Minnesota and will remain in effect until early Thursday. Snow is not expected, but strong winds, gusting as high as 50 mph are expected to stir up loose snow and create whiteout conditions in some areas and dangerous wind chills.

For many school districts this will be the eighth or ninth snow day since January.

If your school isn’t in this list, check with your district office or school website.
